Karen and Bryan Duggan, founders of the business and web site PlayfulPlanet.com, are expanding on the success of their “Storyland Yoga” DVD. Over 8000 copies of the DVD have been sold on amazon.com, including 300 to a library supply service. Their new and improved website offers a video library of comments from many sources, including Cesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer host, and Keb’ Mo’, Grammy award winning artist, both talking about helping children grow up healthier, and involved with the greener things of life.
“Storyland Yoga” has won the Parent’s Choice Approved award and has been selected as Dr. Toy’s Best Green Product. It has also received a Mom’s Choice “Gold” rating as well as a Preferred Choice rating by Creative Child magazine.
For E-book readers, the site offers a free download of “Benefits of Yoga for Children”.
Independent evaluations of the Storyland Yoga DVD include comments such as “This is a great activity for a parent and child to do together. I have a 4 year old and a 5 3/4 year old and both were engaged during the story and both got great ‘movement therapy.’ Every parent should spend a 1/2 hour doing this interactive yoga with their own children – everyone will enjoy the obvious health benefits.” ~ Dr. Sandy Sachs, Director, SLO Wellness Center
“As a pediatrician, I loved that this was teaching children about having a healthy body while connecting with nature – delivered in a playful, fun, engaging format. As a mom, I was surprised that my 10-year-old son (who is older than the target audience for the video,) played along while doing yoga as well. He really liked it, and I wish I had found this when my children were younger. I definitely recommend this DVD. Very creative, and I think it will help to build the foundation for healthy mind/body/spirit practices for the kids who participate!” ~ Susan Hoffman, MD, FAAP, Pediatrician
The Duggan’s have taken a year to research and develop a multitude of connections to public service websites that enable parents to connect with nature while involving their children in introductory yoga excercises. These include an EPA site designed to help kids understand climate change http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/kids/index/html and a Nemours site promoting kids healthhttp://kidshelath.org/parent/centers/fitness.nutrition.center.html
The Playful Planet website offers a variety of interactive selections and regularly features brief reports and endorsements from a variety of children’s and environmental experts. “In addition to being a labor of love for us,” commented founder Karen Duggan. “we will be contributing 1% of gross sales from our website to organizations that help promote the health, safety and education of youngsters throughout the world.”
